The mind swings all the time
Maybe,
To hold
a little authority over us
More often,
It’s
a ‘restless search’ ...
That swings like a ‘swing’ within…
I don’t
know from where the ropes descend
But
it makes me sit on a plank and swing:
Forward and back, up and down
Forward and back, up and down
Eventually, the oscillation slows down,
I am lowered very gently
-the invisible
‘ropes’ are pulled away
Separation is the rule;
Good or bad….I make a choice
It’s that simple, almost.
The rest is chance
likely to
topple

Beautiful, true poignant words echoing life.
ReplyDeleteGood to have you here after a long time, Arti. Thank you so much for the appreciation... I am feeling euphoric.. :)))
DeleteBeautiful
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading, Rupam. Glad to see you here... as always... :))
DeleteIf it swings too hard, it will surely topple. Our choices can def have far reaching ramifications. It is an interesting relationship between our choices and destiny. I wonder with the wrong choices, can a destiny be lost?
ReplyDeleteTrue that...You said it, X!!.That's a life lesson one needs to learn...never be reckless!
DeleteNow, regarding choice and destiny-- I guess, if one believes in destiny, she'd suspect there are greater forces defining life-stories...Sometimes you make choices in life and sometimes choices make you...at least, I assume so.
Glad to see you here... as always... :)) Thank you.
Whew, this is a deep one, Panchali. I like picturing that mind swinging and searching. So many choices are presented to us, I think. We swing one direction, then another, and finally that choice has to be made. I do wonder oftentimes what part destiny plays. On that subject my mind swings back and forth. Smiles.
ReplyDeleteLOL..
DeleteAccording to hindu mythology,we do control our destiny by the actions (choices) we make, to an extent. But also it's all part of a larger destiny, that perhaps we do not control ourselves directly.Maybe our actions and our mistakes create a destiny (karma as we call it) which is on a higher platform.... If that makes sense! The concept is difficult to explain or understand. So, just my random opinion.... :P
Lovely to see you here as always... Mary!
Beautifully crafted, both visually and verbally,to support what you say.
ReplyDeleteComing from you, this is a very gratifying compliment. Thanks Rosemary... :)))
DeleteMind is that pendulum always swinging. It's good when we make a choice, at least we could come out of that swing and it's better if the choice is a right one and destiny doesn't intervene...love this Swing metaphor..great lines Panchali di, as always...
ReplyDeleteThank you for the compliment, Sumana... I am so pleased....! :))
Deletebeautifully written....loved the picture used......choice and destiny....it always makes you sit like that thinking....

DeleteHope to see you more on these pages....

ReplyDelete"I don’t know from where the ropes descend
But it makes me sit on a plank and swing:"
Perhaps it is "destiny"--or in my faith, God's Will, seeming just out of sight. Sometimes we embrace the burning bush and sometimes we fear the flames--the sting.
I guess, faith has slightly stronger implication of a supernatural agency, thereby... more positive connotations. but it is sometimes heard the other way around. Very similar words!
DeleteThanks for dropping by with your thoughtful comment, Susan... :))
"I dont know from where the ropes descend"...I love that line! This is a fantastic write, Panchali. You went deep, and the closing line has bite - "if destiny stings". A wonderful poem.

Choosing IS simple...almost!
ReplyDeleteNot always, MMT!! That's what...me thinks :))) Thanks for reading....

DeleteWe have a choice to stand up to destiny and choose our own way if we dare. Just how brave are we?
ReplyDeleteit does not matter if it topples because then we can stand up tall and start all over again :)
