Sense of identity
appears early in
life.
When the infant
begins to separate
from its unity with mother.
The sudden shock
takes a slice off her identity…
Descartes said, ‘I
think, therefore I am.’
I often think about this ‘thinker in me’…
And when I do..... prefiguring a windfall
I feel like a sky-man in a manhole..
forever troubled.... down there!
Invariably,
the elements of 'yang and yin tease, and
the elements of 'yang and yin tease, and
push me off the edge
Well, I let them win...stylishly,
It's clear now...
at least this seems like the only truth
...that there's a palpable “me”
inside my perishable body
… smiling,
puzzling, chasing
my visage all the time..
Brainstorming only sharpens the Ws,
who, why, what, where, when ...and the rest.

Ah, I am sure that it is a shock for a baby to realize he is NOT part of the mother...that definitely is the first big step to identity. "I think therefore I am" makes me also think about identity, but then I also question: How about those things of nature that do not think? Does not a tree exist? Ha, yes 'yang and yin' scuttle my thoughts too. No clear answers in this life. I do agree that there is a 'me' somewhere deep within everyone's body. That 'me' is unique, unlike any other. We each have a separate identity, and that truly amazes me!

ReplyDeleteThat is one awesome poem I read recently.Yes one gets a new identity once in a new shell on which constant endeavour is made to add a gloss and embellishment to enrich the identity ! Thank you very much

Many of us, especially me, think the same way! But that's what provokes us to write?!!
