Death is the ultimate reality,
but… I refuse to fold
myself to crawl into a coffin
or, put myself to smoldering ember
to
abdicate this world of living until
the bubbles in my blood actually
flush the
acid down my body;
There’s always that ‘acid’ menacing
in our rear-view keeping watch!
.... I fear not!
What deters are the crematoriums, burial grounds
half-burnt dead bodies,
And to top it all
--the unlived
secrets
of a
transient world-hell or heaven, as people say!
One day, I know, I have to trespass the LOC,
Leaving the green earth with all her bounty…
I am ordinary…so, there’s no time to be wasted,
…let me hold my courage in my arms
till the last of the very last descend...
Oh.....this definitely is a realistic poem! We all will need the ultimate courage sometime in our life ...... Let us hope it is not too soon! Wise words, Panchali.
ReplyDeleteAmen to that, Mary!!Smiles.

I am glad you found this beautiful, Sanaa... and that you can see what I wanted you to see... but then I knew you would... :D
DeleteThanks a lot!
Yes, death is always in the.rear view mirror. But we must live and die with courage. There is no escape. Enjoyed reading this Panchalli. Very honest writing.
ReplyDeleteYou have grasped the point exactly as I wanted it to be grasped... and that makes me feel I did manage to convey my thought.
DeleteThanks a ton, Myrna!
There is no escape from that which we fear the most.
ReplyDeleteTrue that, Rall!!Thanks for the visit...
DeleteI like the word choices, "abdicate, deter and transient"...I like too, the folding and in the closing the holding....cyclical and complete. Nicely written!
ReplyDeleteAah... this is how the cycle completes itself!I am glad you agree with me....thanks for reading it so well and for your visit and feedback. I appreciate it very much, Hannah.... :))
DeleteI love your response to the prompt. It does take courage....and trust and faith....to not fear death. Yes, let us breathe in every moment meanwhile.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sherry! Your last line says it all....lovely comment!I am so happy you’ve connected with this poem so well. Thank you so much.. :))

ReplyDeleteWow! That's a huge compliment, Sreeja.Coming from you means a lot to me!!Thank you for the time you took to read and give me feedback... :))))
DeleteI could not but smile at some of the lines. How can a crematorium or the unknown future deter when we become oblivious to all things around Where is the LOC when you own nothing either here or there except your 'baggage'? Why fear what is inevitable?
ReplyDeleteSo good to see you after a long time, Parthasarathi!! Thank you for reading it so well... Every part is metaphorical...and I hope it did not disrupt your thought process too much.:-)
DeleteThanks again!
Well expressed...
ReplyDeleteThank you, DA...for the wonderful feedback. I truly appreciate. :)))
DeleteDeath certainly is real and as we get older more present and yet in this moment we are alive - and your poem celebrates that
