Indebted to My Teacher~

There are many names buried beneath
The deep canals of childhood memories…
Many summers later,
when I think of my teachers
I stumble into the scorching 'daymare'...
It takes me a while to recognize
that most of them are...dead now
…'at rest' neatly with the stars.
The 'unreachables' can be felt
and heard ....in memory, in mind
  In the shadows of life
             lurk confusions and fears
but.... I find a harvest of light...
       maybe, another sun per se?
These lifeless mentors are
            -the guiding lights-I think
       O' memories of them ignite
               respect, reverence and fervour.
Thanks, thanks my worthy teachers,
for scattering the beautiful seeds
     of knowledge, faith and wisdom
and for the rarest, everlasting light.

  3. Oh, yes! Those canals are deep. Many of mine are also departed, though I hope is wasn't educating me/us that did them in (I've never seen that sign in your photo before!) I am old! AND yes, I have living actions in my memories of all of the ones from when I was 5, 6, 7 .... I am so glad you allowed your daymare to ride until you found the guiding lights. This is quite a beautiful poem.

  9. Some 'lights' do not burn out but continue to influence throughout one's life. Often, I think, we may not even remember clearly, but our life has been changed forever...

  12. Most of my teachers must be gone too. Now they live in my memories and in the things they taught me. You wrote a stunning tribute here Panchali.
