Our reflexes
Move on purpose;
Sitting outside a Tea-stall,
Move on purpose;
Sitting outside a Tea-stall,
I found myself leaning away
as speeding cars continuously raced by
skirting the pavement and passing alarmingly close;
nothing was seemingly intimate, connected to the past
History of an accident was a completely inane thing...
Long live the reflexes for survival--though their mysteries unresolved...!
Written for Poet's United -One-word-at-time challenge! This is a form of poetry where the first line has 2 words, the second line has 3, third line has 4 and so on....
"Long live the reflexes for survival" - lovely words !!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Speck :)
DeleteYoiks! I can feel those cars coming too close.
ReplyDeletehahaha...It is, unfortunately not improbable in India!! Thanks!
DeleteInane mysteries built up one at a time create all new meanings.
ReplyDeleteLibby, As they say the best mysteries are mostly twisted! Thanks!:)
DeleteI have often felt this way, traffic can take the peace out of a day. Love this!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, and you can't imagine how bizarre it is in India !! Glad you enjoyed :))Thanks a lot!
DeleteI think it is really disconcerting when one sees an accident happen. A person never knows when it will be his/her turn. I especially despise 'rush hours' and driving in snowy weather. "Long live the reflexes for survival" indeed!
ReplyDeleteMary, Thank you for being here and sharing your viewpoint. Yes, reflexes are the body's rapid defense mechanism. They should keep guiding us to 'duck' or 'dodge'in response to external stimulus...:))
Deletenice one . enjoyed
ReplyDeleteThanks Vishal..:)Look forward to seeing you here again.
DeleteHey I have nominated you for the popular "Liebster Award".
ReplyDeletehttp://advkaranshah.blogspot.in/2013/02/first-blogger-award_7.html

DeleteI'm sure you must have been cringing, with the story of the accidents fresh in your mind!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah...association of thought is surprising indeed!Look forward to seeing you here again, Roshni...:)
DeleteLong live the survival instinct, indeed! Your poem paints a vivid picture. I watched and breathed a sigh of relief!

Kim, Really glad to read your comment..! Yes, death is not uncommon in India's crowded roads! :)
DeleteThanks for the awesome prompt, Kim. Enjoyed writing this!
Wowie! I didn't even realise the form of the composition till I read the end note. Brilliant, Ma'am. And of course, I could feel the cars whizzing by as I sip my tiny plastic cup of chai, sitting on a rickety wooden bench next to a thela :D
ReplyDeleteMixi...It's a delight to see you here always and am glad to read that you enjoyed this poem. Aah, you are such a precious reader, my dear:)) xoxo
DeleteThanks so much!
I agree completely. We need to rely on instinct because our senses are overwhelmed. I like how you illustrated this poem's thesis with vivid detail and experience.
ReplyDeleteSusan, Thank you so much for your visit here and sharing your comments. It is interesting how our muscles constantly adjust their tone to protect us through reflexes. Glad you enjoyed, Susan.Thank you so much for leaving your encouraging comments.:))
Deletewow a new form of poetry !!liked it :) and as for your poetry it's always unique nd amazing :)
ReplyDeleteYes Saikat...This was the first time I tried my hands on writing this style of poetry...and I enjoyed writing this particular piece. Thanks for dropping by and for your encouragement...:)
DeleteOnce bitten, twice shy, but this could take this form through your pen only. Wonderfully written, yes our reflexes protect us a lot of time, not only as bystanders but as drivers too.
ReplyDeleteMeenakshi, Good to see you here always... and feels good to read your appreciation. Thank God, the reflexes are there to protect us from potential dangers!:)
DeleteHi Panchali ji,
ReplyDeleteAhh, poignant description of Reaction time of a driver. Indeed, reflexes are all that can be the difference between an accident and safe driving. Some people consider themselves to be a Pro and often resort to speeding, even on city roads. They forget that all it needs is just a split second of lapse of reflex and all is lost and gone.
Lovely poem written, perhaps sitting at a tea stall?
Regards
Jay

It is a horrible experience for the affected person if he lives alive after the accident.

ReplyDeleteFIF...what...? A reflex is an involuntary action that our body does without thinking. Being a human being, you must have definitely felt it in so many ways! Now, you got me worried...LOL.
DeleteThanks re..
Very true.
ReplyDeleteRajesh, Really glad to know that you found this insightful. Thanks so much!:)
DeleteInteresting form of poetry. Of course, what would we do without our reflexes.

lovely lines.....'Long live the reflexes ..."survival reflexes get into work as soon as the baby arrives.read somewhere that those tiny little creeping in on baby's faces...I mean new born ones are also kind of survival reflex.something so cute and sweet too defined as a mechanism.
ReplyDeleteWow...that's an informative comment, Namita. I know, fetus floats, by instinct in the womb. So, am not surprised :))
DeleteThanks for reading me re...and for your wonderful words of engagement...xoxo.
It's really a challenge to write in a structure. I can't do it. And thank god for our reflexes. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, no! Of course...you can, Saru! It shouldn't be difficult for authors of your stature. So, go ahead!:))
DeleteThanks for being here re..
Ma'am, I just scribble as I don't want to end up in organizing dinners and shopping sprees. My mantra is keep your self busy :)
DeleteDear Saru, As they say, great writers believe in themselves (So Should You)!! And I'm serious! Allocating time periods for writing is a great idea!! Keep writing, ...Perhaps, we enjoy more than you do :))
Deletehugzz
I don't think I can write a poem like that and make any sense either. good job!
