I stare at the human mind
who can cause so much devastation
on the bed draped with life in its depth;
who can cause so much devastation
on the bed draped with life in its depth;
Today,
I stand alone…
With
nightmares in my heart
I
stare in vacuity;
Behold,
I open my mouth
And
curse you all
For
all the things you humans
Have
made me swallow over the years
Effects
take a long time to show…but,
The
countdown has begun.
I
gave you cover,
Helped you breathe the wanted air
My
last gasps…ah, what a heavenly relief!
You'll see the ghastly face of death after this...
No
daggers for me
I
am what you made me
Forest
of rains are now replaced
By
ambiguous omens…
You
twisted this natural world
By
your own devices,
For
your own desires and reasons…
Now,
it’s the nature’s turn
To
turn ruthless and insensitive
Flood,
drought, earth quakes
Are
the sorry gifts of Nature
How
beautiful was the cup,
that held me and the moist earth
that held me and the moist earth
The wounds of the burnt sky, earth
Surround me--- Pity; I lost my homeland
Also the blue
skies; the butterflies;
Wild
full moon; the starry nights
I am speeding towards a painful reality....death!
I
am now bound to a strange wheel of Time
Making
heroic efforts to breathe,
The
air hurts my lungs, burns hope too;
Living amidst thousand deaths, today
I long for my shoulders to rest at last
Your foolish selfishness slow-poisoned me
Oh!
How ignorant you are, my dear humans..
It’s
hard to apprehend,
So
easy to crawl into the fangs
Of
an unsanctified future…
A rare opportunity **** a little magazine has offered to publish this poem!
You have really expressed the voices so correctly ... only we humans are to blamed for this mass destruction !!!
ReplyDeleteSpeck, I am so glad you enjoyed this effort.. Thanks so much for the visit n first comment... :))))
DeleteI am sure if nature would have words to speak or if it were vocal...it would have surely spoken it's heart to human for such devastation human has caused on nature...!!!
ReplyDeleteYour comment has delighted me completely...Anjan! Thanks a lot!:)
DeleteSuch a poignant poem and picture. Very well said!
ReplyDeleteThanks Yolanda. Good to have you here after quite some time!! Thank you for such a lovely comment... and for coming by... :)))
Deleteprofoundly advocated.
ReplyDeletei see you have gone to height of emotions while writing - I guess.
Thank you, Sathish. Perhaps I was influenced by what my readers would make of it... and how much !!! Perhaps that is the reason I went overboard :P
DeleteThanks for your visit and feedback. I appreciate it very much.... :))
Wonderful and profound. Consequences can be devastating when nature turns insensitive.
ReplyDeleteAsh....Nature's fury can be devastating!
DeleteWhat a lovely comment...!
Thank you so much.. :))
imaginative, expressive, poignant, with a hint of warning..
ReplyDeleteabsolutely spot on.. great poem panchali ma'm..
truly depicts the sorry state of affairs that has infected the ways we deal with nature..
thumbs up..
Thank you, Deepak for your encouragement...our world is suffering of climate change because human beings have abused mother nature...it has been a raw deal end of the day!
DeleteSo good to have you here. Do visit again.
Wow! What a lovely lovely poem! We should be taking better care of Her!
ReplyDeleteMeoww...indeed, better we stop abusing Her now!
DeleteThank you Meoww... That was very flattering... :))
A prelude to 21/12/12?!! :)
ReplyDeleteGood one!
Deepak....You read it well. End of Mayan calender is also playing in my mind...Thanks!!
DeleteLovely and poignant at the same time! We need to hear the voices soon before it gets too late.
ReplyDeleteArti, Man calls himself superior but it is he, who is the cause of all worries! Yes, sooner the better we become wise.... :)
DeletePleasure to see you on my space....always:)
Thanks so much!
This poem is so true and apt. You reap what you sow and we humans deserve to be treated this way as we have chosen to treat mother nature the same way.
ReplyDeletePoignant! Profound! Marvelous!!
ReplyDeleteAmit, That was the best compliment you could have paid me... :)) Thanks...
DeleteWOW at your poetry... This one is a sad one proving the guilt of the humans... Hope the trees in future don't accuse as this one... Excellent voicing of the tree..
ReplyDeleteHarikrishna...Thank you for that WOW!! Thank you so much for your words of appreciation... it makes me feel great. Fantastic!
DeleteThanks a ton!
The human greed has devastated the nature and no wonder we see, Tsunami's, earthquakes, flash floods and hurricanes now striking with vengenance!! Lovely expression, Panchali:)
ReplyDeleteYes Rahul...Our planet is under the threat by the best and most intelligent creature of its inhabitants. What a pity!!! The clock is ticking. No time to waste. We should act now!!

Thanks Ankit for your wonderful comments.. good to see you here... :))
DeleteHave read your blog and left a comment there. I wish to read you more :)))
Thank you!
Tsunamis, earthquakes and all other natural disasters are the result of our own deeds. They happen when Mother nature cries with anger. then we complain why she is so cruel towards us? but we always forget how much cruel we are towards her. Beautiful poem!!
ReplyDeleteYes, Valli---The tsunami, earth quake, cyclones, floods, volcanic eruptions are all disasters which are killing thousands of lives today. Deadly toxins have brought devastation everywhere. Hope people wake up now!
DeleteSo glad you liked the poem! Thanks!!
TTT....We are utterly ignorant and big fools. I agree with you, we have taken way too much without putting anything back ...Now it's time to pay back!!
ReplyDeleteThanks:)
Beautifully written. Nature will win oout in the end.
ReplyDeleteCosmo, thanks for the appreciation! Certainly, Nature will win in the end. We are aware of the consequences of our greedy actions!! Sigh!
DeleteProfound thoughts. The words in each of your poems seem to reflect a deep reality Mam. Humans are the cynical beings who could be blamed for the mass upheaval caused on mother nature. Their brutalities & weird sense of atrocities are just for a selfish reason. The Dark tree had a strong voice & the poem get every one of us thinking. Take care!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Tanya, You made my day! So, permit myself to feel pleased...I am absolutely thrilled!!:))
DeleteThanks...
You have put it in nice perspective.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Rajesh. You have really got into the spirit ...
DeleteProfoundly vociferous and thought provoking Panchali ji. Needed the dictionary for a word or two too.. :)
ReplyDeleteLeo, Happy to see you here... AND to see a comment... :)))But, don't tell me that you had to consult the dictionary for a couple of words!!! Oh, no...that's a huge compliment & it's difficult to shake it off!!!!:D :D Thank you!!
DeletePleased to see you here... :)
Profound...It's we who have made this state. We are the culprits. A huge price to pay.
ReplyDeleteFIF...Oh, yes, we are already paying a heavy price for all our greedy actions. The greed of man is failing them badly.....There are ways to stop it. The people need to be more aware of it.
DeleteI am glad you liked... thanks for the appreciation.:)
It's just amazing that some people are still blind to this destruction! Wonderful poem, Panchali di!
ReplyDeleteRoshni...we are into deforestation, destroy animal habitats, cause animals to go extinct or endangered...and call ourselves intellectuals! What an irony!
DeleteThanks for your words of appreciation, Roshni...:))
Very well written, good timing too.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot for the feedback, Indrani... really appreciate it... :))))
DeletePanchali you can write about anything! This one has a hard hitting message.
ReplyDeleteIndu, God gave me readers like you...so am alive. *smiling shyly* Thanks so much for your precious comment. :)
DeleteProfound!
ReplyDeleteThanks Rajrupa. Good to see you after a long time...:))
DeleteThe sense of mourning in this is felt...the dying, the consequences...great descriptions here. You have a magical pen!
ReplyDeleteWow...thanks a lot, Poet Laundry for your encouragement...you made my day!!! Thanks a ton!
Deleteit is like a i-know-it-but-i-will-continue-to-do-it kind of situation.....getting rid of, that one tree that is obstructing my telephone lines, that tree that is sitting in the middle of my land, that one tree that prevents the road from being widened, that one tree that isn't bearing any fruits now, so lets all go chop-chop-chop..and say it was only one tree! and then sit wondering, why there are no rains, why there is so much pollution, why there are no birds....
ReplyDeletebeautifully expressed! like they say, hell hath no fury like a woman(read: nature) scorned!
Li'l princess...you wrapped it up so well :)) I think, human beings have been doing a lot of things that they thought was 'necessity'...but, now it's time to rise and get out of our comfort zones. We definitely have no right to destroy our environment at any cost!!
DeleteThanks a zillion for being here with such a meaningful comment!! You are precious.xoxo
Very well expressed Panchali...poignant yet emphasizing!
ReplyDeletehttp://ektakhetan.blogspot.in/
Ekta...Nice to see you here after a long time ! How have you been? Glad you enjoyed! Thanks for the encouragement..:)
DeleteI'll hop over soon..:)
"Now, it’s the nature’s turn
ReplyDeleteTo turn slack and insensitive
Flood, drought, earth quakes
Are the sorry gifts of Nature"
Very Malthusian !!!
Ashwini...You mean Malthusian population theory? Point taken...WOW!!!*going over the moon with happiness*
DeleteNever thought about it. Oh well... one lives and learns... no...?
Thanks a bunch.... :)
This one hurts the human in me. We are what we are, when will we change.
ReplyDeleteExpressive and powerful lines and your wall paper contrasts with it :)
Ghaz, Your presence here at last has thrilled me. Thanks... :))
DeleteAs gasps the earth
ReplyDeleteand the universe breaths a sigh
naivety of our race
will take us to our grave
So well expressed Panchali. But then I know your caliber.
Doc!! Glad you were able to navigate through the maze and emerge here safe and sound....:) I am so happy you took the trouble to write some meaningful lines here which add value to this blog.
DeleteYou wrapped it up impeccably!!! Thanks a lot! And do stay in touch. Will be in your space soon..Thanks a zillion.
This is so well written, Panchali, and so very sad. But it's true--if we keep on the path that we are going, we will lose all of nature's beauty one day. I feel this way every time I see trees being cut down to make parking lots and shopping centers. It really makes me sad.
ReplyDeleteThanks MM, Conserving any resources and reducing waste make sense. As responsible human beings of this planet, we need to leave this world a better place for posterity. Thanks so much for your meaningful comment :)
DeleteI love the sardonic tone...people often write of Earth like a caring mother...I like this perturbed, to-the-point version.
ReplyDelete(previous comment had a mistake)
Jack, No issues...I have deleted the previous comment. I am glad you liked the approach..: Thanks a zillion for the visit... :))
DeleteIt's intimidating & poignant too! We shall really have to rub our shoulders now, to let our nature peacefully, for our own existence. :)
ReplyDeleteWell said, Gayatri--- the civilization will turn to ruin, and the day is not far if we do not stop abusing nature!! Let us be like Nature….Let us be peaceful :)
DeleteA very apt comment I must say....lovely! Thanks a bunch :)
Beautiful share ~ It makes me sad that we don't care for nature around us ~
ReplyDeleteHave a good week ~
Heaven, we have reached a point at which it is next to impossible to find anything resembling wilderness in many parts of the world. The result is a land with vast areas devoid of nature. It's truly sad and we are already facing the consequences...
DeleteAppreciation is valuable when it comes from a true poet... permit me to feel elated.. :)))
Thanks a ton!
What I don't understand is if one considers the age of our earth and how long it remained a paradise. Then in a spec of time when us humans began becoming greety with the riches of the earth and the selfish things we wanted to make with them to appease our immediate desires, in this miniscule time line we ruin and waste these gifted riches. We will have devoured our own young and extingushed all life in our created mire. Hopefully life will exist joyfully after our extinction.
ReplyDeleteThank you Panchali for this prick to our souls
Nene...welcome to my space :) I am glad that this touched your soul...Double standards are but natural in human society.. even though we are quite aware of the negative factors, we tend to stay aloof.
DeleteThanks, and I hope to see you more on my pages. Thanks!
I am wondering Where should I start from ...Thanks,sorry,feedback...Aah!! Ok let me start with my heartfelt thanks for your loving concern about my health..Your wishes did miracles..Now it has improved a lot and more thanks for leaving those encouraging words on my writings even though they weren't well deserving and I wasn't able to turn up to writings on time..and I am really sorry for that....
ReplyDeleteAs far as your poetry is concerned it doesn't need confirmation from anybody...it speaks by itself .....again a precious pearl from the ocean of your thoughts..
Cheers
** Aah!! I have messed up your space **
Thanks Odyzz...why should I give a good feedback on an unworthy post.. Huh?? I don't think I am capable enough to write a critical evaluation, but, I can definitely encourage good writers. I have been a bookworm since my childhood, so I do have the ability to differentiate good from bad.... :)
DeleteMy readers are my adorable guests, so they can never mess up my space. Thanks for your appreciation.I am grateful :)
Apologies Di...With all respect and gratitude I think I wasn't able to express myself in the correct manner ...I just missed mentioning that as I composed my last few entries in a haste I myself didn't found them up to mark ...and moreover you have all the abilities( or I should say you have an inherent quality) to judge, evaluate or differentiate ...I always look forward for more and more of your words and welcome them wholeheartedly..Once again I feel sorry from the bottom of my heart if any of my words offended you by any means...
DeleteHe he... I'll assume you didn't mean THAT...!Odyzz...No issues, my dear. Never say sorry that easily!:)))
DeleteHugzz...
This is a total wowzer of a poem! The tree spoke right to my heart, and so eloquently. "How beautiful was the cup....the wild full moon.....starry nights....speeding towards an unsanctified future." You have very eloquently stated the case.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sherry... That's very flattering... :)) Please read my poem written for Poet Wednesday-- Postcard? I posted it pretty late this time..Thanks!
DeleteDear Panchali.....What a relief I feel ..aah..the pleasure of reading you.
ReplyDelete'How beautiful was the cup,
that held me and the moist earth
The wounds of the burnt sky, earth
Surround me--- Pity, I lost my homeland
Also the blue skies; the butterflies in the sunshine;
Wild full moon; the starry nights '
I felt like crying....we are loosing all that is beautiful.Only we human can harm ourselves upto the point of destruction and then too blatantly go on putting the blames on others.
happy to be here.
love
namita
