Curse Of A Tree

I stare at the human mind
who can cause so much devastation
on the bed draped with life in its depth;

Today, I stand alone…
With nightmares in my heart
I stare in vacuity;
Behold, I open my mouth
And curse you all
For all the things you humans
Have made me swallow over the years
Effects take a long time to show…but,
The countdown has begun.

I gave you cover,
Helped you breathe the wanted air
My last gasps…ah, what a heavenly relief!
You'll see the ghastly face of death after this...
No daggers for me
I am what you made me
Forest of rains are now replaced
By ambiguous omens…
You twisted this natural world
By your own devices,
For your own desires and reasons…

Now, it’s the nature’s turn
To turn ruthless and insensitive
Flood, drought, earth quakes
Are the sorry gifts of Nature
How beautiful was the cup,
that held me and the moist earth
 The wounds of the burnt sky, earth
Surround me--- Pity; I lost my homeland
Also the blue skies; the butterflies;
Wild full moon; the starry nights
 I am speeding towards a painful reality....death!

I am now bound to a strange wheel of Time
Making heroic efforts to breathe,
The air hurts my lungs, burns hope too;
 Living amidst thousand deaths, today
 I long for my shoulders to rest at last
Your foolish selfishness slow-poisoned me
Oh! How ignorant you are, my dear humans..
It’s hard to apprehend,
So easy to crawl into the fangs
Of an unsanctified future…

A rare opportunity **** a little magazine has offered to publish this poem!

  19. Profound thoughts. The words in each of your poems seem to reflect a deep reality Mam. Humans are the cynical beings who could be blamed for the mass upheaval caused on mother nature. Their brutalities & weird sense of atrocities are just for a selfish reason. The Dark tree had a strong voice & the poem get every one of us thinking. Take care!

  33. This is so well written, Panchali, and so very sad. But it's true--if we keep on the path that we are going, we will lose all of nature's beauty one day. I feel this way every time I see trees being cut down to make parking lots and shopping centers. It really makes me sad.

  37. What I don't understand is if one considers the age of our earth and how long it remained a paradise. Then in a spec of time when us humans began becoming greety with the riches of the earth and the selfish things we wanted to make with them to appease our immediate desires, in this miniscule time line we ruin and waste these gifted riches. We will have devoured our own young and extingushed all life in our created mire. Hopefully life will exist joyfully after our extinction.

    Thank you Panchali for this prick to our souls
