Wake Up~

from Sanaa's Post

I remember the horrific scene
Of a family of beggars
Scavenging the depths of a garbage bin
For morsels of left-overs
Thrown  by the restaurant owner.
Some of us have trained the heart
Not to show feelings of aghast…empathy.
Ah, is this how the dignity of man evaporates
In the land of god and goddesses….

Is god there? Is He so unfair?

Millions of people in Kashmir
Who were neighbours till yesterday
Are suddenly hostile….
…ready to pounce on each other;
They do not mind slaughtering at the crossroads
Don’t we feel remorse when
innocent natives are shot in the valley?
A beautiful paradise breathes death,
dreams ruins, mourning on the graveyard.
Ah, why there’s so much hatred, intolerance
In the land of god and goddesses…

Is god there? Is He so unjust?

The farmers in depths of agrarian distress
Drying to death today....
The monsoon’s hide and seek game
has been on far too long…
Their parched hearts tremble
at the touch of a monsoon breeze,
Green fields gleam in their eyes…but,
Where are the rains? The hungry people are still hungry.
The rain-less sky looks on the seared earth,
…lives stifle; tears sketch drought on the earth.
Perhaps, with the hope…
The tears they shed may grow new blades in future
Speed forth fruition...
and further give freedom for debt.
Human race is not all that well
In the land of gods and goddesses….

Our Earth is sinking-
we shall all soon vanish into a point-
To a HELL beyond our imagination…
My bitter-soul bursts shouting out aloud
Reality is PREGNANT…Waiting in the wings!
Wake Up…..!!

  1. Wow. Your words are hard and true. What are we waiting for? My heart breaks at the cruelty of humanity, and even at earth's revenge.

  2. Sadly, humans were given free will and are making a hell of paradise. Terribly sad about Kashmir, the land of poets.......and frightening when the monsoons dont come.

  3. I love the rallying cry at the end. Our problem is that compassion is dead. Well penned!

  4. Yes, reality is pregnant isn't it and so many politicians are still turning a blind eye to the natural disasters to come some of which have been exacerbated by ourselves over the last two centuries.

  5. Aah...'in the land of gods and goddesses' recurs with a whip to lash us into conscience. But we are in perpetual slumber. Sigh.

  6. Your first stanza resonated with me. I have witnessed scenes like that many times
The terrible terrible truth is that most of us toughen ourselves to this reality to survive and others don't even notice it at all. You can only do your best Panchali...there must be others who think like you...God bless you all!
