Long before our ascent
Mother earth romped around
the garden of fireflies, of lilies
redefined a world of fairy clouds for us
to ride on, drive through-aspire
The glory of all gave the mankind,
birds and animals
..... 'a beautiful heaven'
to Live, Sit and Eat...
She arranged species in many rows
Some evolved with time thrived;
Some rolled by the ebb crouched;
folding their cold hearts.
Human being
...is the weirdest species, she created!
...is the weirdest species, she created!
Like parasites, they mounted in numbers
Tossed about far and wide looted
resources, taking small bites
The spectacle of Greed and Hunger
led to the meaningless extinction
of innumerable species.
Mother nature lives and breathes
dying a little everyday today...
Mankind, still unconcerned about
the happenings in this world
frightens her disturbs her worries her
Temptation feeds on human greed
We need to keep a tight rein on greed
The future of our coming generations
are paving the path of death…
Just two more legs- the mankind would sink
Be ready for reality!
O god,
What should I tell and to whom?
I see myself in the pack
Ah, there's no limit to the yearn
Consciously, I decide
I do.
Man is the only
kind of weird-varmint who sets his own trap, baits it, then steps in it. ~John
Steinbeck,
What a horrible
legacy we are leaving behind? Not just for the coming generations but also for
other living beings i.e. animals and trees. Sigh!

So true! Human beings are the weirdest creatures.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully weaved and perfectly expressed. Loved reading the weird wisdom :)
I agree wholeheartedly and your closing sentiment that brings it to the idea of "what one person can do" is powerful as well. Great Steinbeck quote!
ReplyDeleteA very not weird message - much needed.
ReplyDeleteSuch passion in your poem :D I agree, the last stanza is gold!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully written.
Lots of love,
Sanaa
My heart weeps at these thoughts. Humanity must elevate to true wisdom.
ReplyDeleteWe definitely are the weirdest species, so destructive to self and others. I wish those who see could rule, but i'm afraid we will go down with the rest. Sigh. I like how your poem puts this in the context of creation herself.
ReplyDeleteYou have such a wonderful way of sharing your thoughts and wisdom, Panchali. And, as always, I agree with you. Peace.
ReplyDeleteI could not agree more. Well said, Panchali.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely true!!
ReplyDeleteSo few of us see ourselves in this way, thinking that somehow it will all turn out OK. We have been gifted with inventiveness and can think of nothing better that to destroy each other and the natural world around us. Magnificent post Panchali.
ReplyDeleteIt is very hard to go against the flow of human parasites - and yet many try - perhaps there is hope in that and eventually those people will be the ones mother nature will be proud of
ReplyDeleteExcellent!
ReplyDeleteTrue. A cause for deep introspection.
ReplyDeleteI am reminded that my grandmother, in the 1940s, used to say she thought the worst problem with the world was human greed.
ReplyDeleteWonderfully woven...human being is the weirdest species no doubt!

undoubtedly human species is the weirdest of all
ReplyDeleteAhh! The joy of poetry. Beautifully written, Panchali di!
ReplyDeleteLove,
