As I watched You Grow...

My Baby thirty years back...!

Some vital hours elapsed under ecstasies of time
Days metamorphosed capturing transience of mothering
Time vanished before I realized--and today
when I have nothing to occupy on a long unpromising Sunday
I look everywhere for something of you, my girl..

Heaps of sounds and smells of memory return
there's no word that can fit this exhilarating feeling-
Ask me the price of mother's yearning-its priceless!!
Ah, a million thoughts roll back as I think of you
and... flash forward crimson smiles ..

Pausing a breath or two I often ask: 'Where's my little girl?'
I protected you from rain, sun, hailstorms and shocks
You gained years, grew unflapping wings---sought freedom
But, we never drifted apart-- the bond locked our hearts
So, we still share our anxieties, hopes, dreams, tears and prayers...

Soon I'll be old, worn out---help me end the long wait, my dear.
Give me a grandchild...- I want it as a toy
Lullabies of moon still rise under the night sky
I sulk all day- blind heart curves and coils wild in pace
Time, birth, new beginnings are some beautiful human moments...

  4. Panchali,

We mothers all feel the same...The same shock that time passes so quickly from having our own babies, until the time when we are full of wonder about seeing the next generation....I have seen the delight of that day, with my little grandson:)
    Happy Mother's Day,
    Eileen

  6. Time passes so fast, doesn't it? Thirty years passes in a 'heartbeat,' it seems. And I know the 'baby' is now a woman. You will enjoy being a grandmother when the time comes. Everything in its time.....but I do definitely understand your yearning!

'You gained years, grew unflapping wings---sought freedom

These lines really signify what a Mother- daughter relation truly is; far apart yet near due to the bond they share!
