Blessed Are The Patches

Small pleasures of pulling a quilt
on a chilly night have lived and unlived
in unceasing shapes ,the ceaseless way

random squares with prints of briers and furze
caught in the monotony of trivial repetitions
reveal a kinship in interfusing thoughts

there’s something about quilts that reminds me of my baby
wheeling round across her love for brightness, color, gaiety
I started weaving a quilt with strips of fabrics in square, oblong, triangle

a gentle pattern followed to help the contrast
sometimes, the colors, shapes came head on
Sometimes they ran into a gentle accord

a reminder—all patterns lead somewhere
the dark turns to light, and vice versa ; diversity is beautiful
little fragments make life a blithesome symphony!

  8. I have always admired those who worked with patterns, either quilting or knitting or needlepoint. I do know there is something comforting in trivial repetitions, as you call them. I am not one who has any of these talents, but I understand the joy people find in the process. I loved the comment that all patterns lead somewhere.. So true and wise. Not only with quilts but with poetry as well. And with life itself, I think. I enjoyed this greatly, Panchali.

  9. This is a warm poem. It reminds me how I used to look at those patch work quilts and think about how pattern must have come in the mind of artist. You weaved it beautifully with words and memories. :)
