The Girl's Wings~

Image result for a little girl flying with wings

A dusky little frame came to my side
Urged me to tell what wilderness is
all about….

I spoke not about the prince on a winged horse
Or sleeping princess; not about the fairy purple clouds,
good fairies or good elves.

I spoke about ….
the first shower of the season
the song of a lark
the humming of bees
the chimes of the cow-bells on the swiss alps

Mists lifted the outskirts of her world
She clapped her hands and ran…
I discerned where her wings had turned.

My evening
bristled with a breeze of contentment.

“I am glad I will not be young in a future without wilderness.”
― Aldo Leopold
Sadly, more and more children today have less and less contact with the natural world...

  1. Less and less wilderness, for tomorrow's children and today's wildlife.......our species if so voracious. I love what you are teaching your little one...........all the best things! Smiles.

    Let this always be possible!

How very true Panchali! While they don't know what they are missing, it is the tragedy behind the impact of progress on the environment the matters!

  5. "the first shower of the season
    the song of a lark
    the humming of bees
the chimes of the cow-bells on the swiss alps"...This is paradise. And the concern for the future children who will miss it breaks the heart. Beautiful, Panchali di.

  6. How gorgeous is this? I love the lines:
'the first shower of the season
    the song of a lark
    the humming of bees
the chimes of the cow-bells on the swiss alps'
    and
'Mists lifted the outskirts of her world'
and such a refreshing breeze of contentment!
