Not all waves crush the bone, some
pass through
But some visit the earth like frolicking mermaids,
Tossing the shore-line in its play;
And when the thrill stops,
Everything is drawn to the depths of
sea….
Some not-so-lucky cry for their
vanished neighbour & family;
Amidst a bed full of bleeding sand, flotsam,
bodies,
Still unsettled waves; they walk,
and walk
not knowing when they will find another land.
The waves continue to roll- and in
its vaulting
All endings end & new beginnings
begin.
The sea delivers a land back…..and
the world goes about its usual business.
A sad poem full of death...reminds me of the Japanese tsunami a few years back.
ReplyDeleteI was struck by the sadness of this
ReplyDeleteSad words indeed - and yes we forget and life goes on...

We may sigh, but the waves themselves are indifferent. It is we who would have to change to avoid the cargnage. Where can we move, how can we be of assistance to each other?
ReplyDeleteThis is very timely, as large parts of eastern Canada are underwater. It seems an act of faith to live at the edge of bodies of water any more.
ReplyDelete"not all waves crush bone" - I was pulled in with that image. Sometimes I wonder how things continue along as usual.

It works in its own ways and we who benefit may not even be bothered!

Humans often find it hard to adjust to the mood of both Earth and Sea as both are much more powerful than us. Such is the risk of making ones living at their meeting as they constantly goad each other!
ReplyDeleteNicely portrayed the havoc caused by the giant waves
ReplyDeleteWe are so insignificant, trifle and helpless, isn't it? Though 'Not all waves crush the bone'....A beautiful and thought provoking poem, Panchali di.
ReplyDelete'All endings end & new beginnings begin.'
ReplyDeleteHow thoughtful. Nice composition.
the opening...the ending...perfectly put together....!
ReplyDeleteThe ocean is alluring and deadly at the same time, and you've captured both aspects in this poem.
ReplyDeleteThe sea a paradox of friend and foe. Nicely said Panchali
